New Year, New Beginnings
Happy New Year! January is the time for new beginnings, and I am always thrilled to see many new faces at my gym and more consumers in the produce aisles at the store this time of year. By late Spring, though, many of them are gone. Why is that? Resolutions can be hard to keep if the change to your daily life is too daunting, or focuses just on one part of the goal – like losing weight – rather than the total picture – like improving your health.
This year, our family decided to make small changes in a few areas because we thought if we did a little in each area it could add up to have impact. We’re exercising 5-10 minutes more, adding one more piece a fruit to every meal, drinking one more glass of water and making sure our kids do the same. And most of all, we are focusing on what these changes will bring to our lives.
What can you do this year? What small changes can you make that you can keep for yourself and your family? Can you all do the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Challenge together and get 60 minutes of physical activity for five days a week for six weeks? It doesn’t have to be exercise class, it could be walking the dog, riding bikes to school or playing on the playground – I know I am huffing every time I play tag with the second graders. How about adding more fruits and vegetables?
