Riverton Summer School students visit Greenbush for Healthy Kids Summer Camp

August 02, 2007

Twenty-four Middle School students from Riverton summer school visited Greenbush Monday, July 20 participating in Sportsology: 101 Healthy Kids Summer Camp. The day was kicked off with discussing the food pyramid along with how important it is for kids of this age to eat healthy. The students also kicked off their morning by making their own snack mix out of whole grain cereal, dried fruit, pretzels, nuts, raisons, and popcorn. Guest speaker, Sara Mitchell, from the Pittsburg YMCA, presented to the students teaching them how to correctly warm up their muscles and proper stretching techniques to perform before participating in any physical activity. The students joined in an actual warm up routine along with using resistant ropes to work their arms and legs. The healthy lunch of the day consisted of make your own sandwich kabobs and grilled vegetable packets. The day wrapped up with bicycle safety. Each of the students got fitted for their own bicycle helmet to take home and participated in a bicycle obstacle course. If you are interested in bringing a group of student to a Healthy Kids Camp, please contact Lisa Schossow, Greenbush, 620-724-6281.
